The Rotunda, the most significant monument in Thessaloniki, was built at the crossroads of two worlds, the Roman and the Byzantine. Its construction began at the end of the 3rd to the beginning of the 4th century AD when Caesar Galerius Valerius (293-311 AD) chose Thessaloniki as the seat of the eastern part of the Roman Empire. It is included in the Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2008, the archaeological site was awarded by the European Union and Europa Nostra. Europa Nostra is the pan-European federation for cultural heritage. When the Rotunda was built, what its use was, how to interpret its original, masterful decoration, and many other questions have received various interpretations, often diametrically opposed, without research reaching commonly accepted conclusions. So what’s going on with the Rotunda? A group of students interviewed Ms. Pelli Mastaora, an archaeologist at the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki, who answered their questions. On the occasion of the guided tour of the Galerian Complex and the Rotunda, a group of B’ class students sought information in order to create a radio broadcast about these monuments of our city. The broadcast was aired on European School Radio on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

“In memory of Alkis Kampanos, who unjustly lost his life a year ago after being attacked, the students of the 1st Senior High School of Stavroupoli spread their own message for the elimination of sports fans violence, forming with their school bags and bodies the words: VIOLENCE = WEAKNESS ALKIS.”

On Tuesday May 16 2023, at the “Lazaristes” Monastery, the dance-theater performance “Life After…!!” was presented, dedicated to our ancestors who, more than 100 years ago after the Asia Minor Catastrophe, arrived in their homeland exhausted in various ways, leaving their own “Homeland” behind and settling in Western Thessaloniki. Thus, our school’s project entitled “Tastes and Aromas of the East…!” was completed.
The event was the result of collaboration among 6 schools in the area, including our school, the1st Senior High School of Stavroupoli.
We congratulate the children on their wonderful performance and wish them more success to come!
For those who couldn’t attend the performance live, they have the opportunity to watch it recorded on the channel of the Directorate of Education of WesternThessaloniki

Tasting traditional dishes from Asia Minor!
On Friday, June 14, 2023, an in-school training was held for Classroom Management, Crisis, and Conflict Resolution by our school’s educational advisor, Ms.Olga Vasileiadou. Educators were informed about strategies that help in creating a positive learning environment and effective negotiation techniques.
One of the main concerns of the school psychologist, in collaboration with the Principal, is to create a confidential and supportive environment where members of the educational staff feel safe to discuss the challenges they face daily in their work, to express their concerns and needs without fear of judgment. Both the psychologist and the principal should provide space for this sharing and offer their professional opinion, advising and guiding the educators to address and handle the issues that arise.
The arrangement of the staff association’s gathering space outside the classroom and office positively contributed to strengthening colleagues’ communication, exchanging opinions, enhancing the positive school climate and providing relief from classroom tension.
The construction was carried out through the personal effort of the teachers’ association, with the assistance of all teachers, particularly the new educators.
We also extend our gratitude to the technical staff of the Municipality of Pavlos Melas, who perfected the construction.
